  >  Experiences   >  F1 Las Vegas 2023: How to Book a Hotel More Than a Year in Advance

I never thought I would need to book a hotel more than a year in advance until I heard that F1 was finally coming to Las Vegas in November 2023. Yes, if you must know, I jumped on Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” TV series train and have been hooked on F1 ever since. I’ve been so hooked that my best friend and I planned a road trip from Los Angeles to the F1 USA Grand Prix in Austin last year. So, when it was announced that F1 was coming to Las Vegas after 40 years, I knew I wanted to book hotels right away before the prices skyrocketed.

There are two problems though. First, most hotels don’t let you book more than a year in advance and F1 Las Vegas is a solid 15 months away. Second, F1 hasn’t officially announced what weekend in November it would be holding the epic Las Vegas race. Well, there’s some good news everyone. Just by luck, I met a person a couple of weekends ago that taught me a secret travel hack on how to book a hotel more than a year in advance!

How to Book a Hotel More Than a Year in Advance

What Do You Need?

Trust me when I say that I’ve tried to research every possible way to book a hotel in advance for the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix and literally gave up until I met someone recently who had the same interest in F1. He told me that if you have AAA insurance and call their travel agency, they can help book a hotel more than a year in advance for you. I was shocked since I didn’t really find this information when I was researching myself.

How to Do It?

Once I found this out, I went home to test if you could really book a hotel more than a year in advance with AAA. First, I went to their travel website ask tried to book a hotel for the first weekend of November 2023. I wasn’t expecting it to actually work because the guy I met was very specific about having to call AAA for them to book for you. To my surprise though, a bunch of hotels showed up.

Can You Really Book More Than A Year in Advance?

Yes! I tested it online and it actually works. I got a confirmation email and my credit card was charged so it’s definitely real. The best part is that I did it all online and I didn’t have to call the AAA travel agent. Can you imagine trying to explain why I needed to book a bunch of random weekends in 2023?

So, How Far Can You Book In Advance Then?

For most of the hotels that are over a year out, it looks like you can book them until the end of 2023. I started checking dates for 2024 but about half the hotels fell off the list.

When is F1 Las Vegas?

Since F1 has not officially revealed their Las Vegas November 2023 dates yet, it leaves us with four weekends that it could possibly be. We know for sure the main championship race is going to be held on Saturday night so it’s safe to assume the qualifying race will be on Friday night and the practice races will be on Thursday night. So, if you are planning on going all three nights, you’ll want to book Thursday-Sunday.

Rumors have just started spreading this week that the race will be held from November 16-18 from a Letter of Intent that was submitted by the Las Vegas Convention and & Vistors Authority. It seems that it is most likely going to be held this weekend but nothing has been confirmed yet.

F1 Las Vegas Hotel Booking Strategy

If you are like me and don’t like to leave anything to chance, you might say, “Hey, why don’t I just book all four weekends then?” Some of you might think that’s crazy (and it probably is), but the best part about booking AAA Travel is that there is free cancellation! So, you can hold onto these reservations and just cancel the other three once F1 Las Vegas finally announces their official dates. The only issue is that you have to pre-pay in advance so booking all four weekends will cost you a hefty amount in the beginning.

Please keep in mind that this strategy should be only used if you can afford to! There’s no point going into credit card debt just to book a hotel room. Also, I’m hoping that F1 will officially announce the dates before my billing cycle ends so I can have enough time to cancel before it hits my monthly statement.

What Las Vegas Hotels Can You Book More Than a Year in Advance?

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I’m a Hyatt Globalist which means that I’m a die-hard MGM patron. Unfortunately, none of the MGM, Caesars, and Wynn properties are available to book more than a year in advance. The main hotels I saw where you could though were the Venetian (IHG), Palazzo (IHG), Hilton at Resorts World (Hilton), and Conrad at Resorts World (Hilton). There are a few other hotels off the strip, but if you are going for F1 Las Vegas, you should really pick one of those four hotels I mentioned above.

Conclusion

Although it’s super rare for me to book a hotel more than a year in advance, at least I know there’s a travel hack for it now. Hopefully, it will help you plan your future vacations and events like it helped me for F1 Las Vegas. I’m praying that F1 does announce their official dates soon though because I definitely don’t want all four room reservations hitting my credit card statement lol!
