What to Do: This Cartagena Sunset Catamaran Cruise is only $24!

If you’re planning a trip to Cartagena, Colombia, one experience you absolutely cannot miss is taking a luxury sunset catamaran cruise around Cartagena. I’m not a big beach person but I knew I wanted to do something that was at least water-related in Cartagena. I love boat rides so I started researching and found this amazing sunset catamaran cruise for only $24 by Bona Vida. This is even cheaper than the catamaran ride that I did in Hawaii! I literally couldn’t believe how affordable it was and if you are a solo traveler like me, it was a super easy activity for you to sign up and do by yourself.

Why Choose the Bona Vida Sunset Catamaran Cruise?

Spectacular Views of Cartagena’s Skyline:

The Bona Vida Sunset Catamaran Cruise is a great way to get out of the hot city and go explore out in the water. The best part for sure was the amazing sunset views that you get along with the city lights on the ride back. If you’re a photographer, it’s a great way to get pictures of Cartagena’s skyline as well.

Premium Comfort and Luxury:

The catamaran itself is the highlight of the experience! It is spacious and equipped with comfortable seating. Probably the biggest catamaran I’ve been on. The Bona Vida catamaran ensures you can relax and enjoy the cruise in style. You can choose to lounge on the deck, take a seat in the shaded area, or just freely move around the boat. Every spot offers a perfect view of the sunset and the city. Also, good thing to note, I usually get sea sick and have to take motion sick pills but the boat was big enough where I didn’t need to.

The Price Point:

Ummmm… Did I mention the price yet? It’s only $24! I can’t even get an Uber at home for that price anymore. Cartagena is definitely not as cheap as Bogotá and Medellín, so finding this catamaran cruise was absolutely a steal.

What’s Included in the Bona Vida Sunset Catamaran Cruise?

Snacks and Drinks:

If the price point of this cruise wasn’t already good enough, it’s about to get better! Along with your ticket, they do a tray pass of a couple small appetizers and you one free drink is included! They give you a little coin when you board for you to redeem for your free drink. I decided to get a white wine which was surprisingly pretty decent. If you want more drinks though, they are super affordable. My white wine only costs $3.50 if I were to get another one.

Coin to redeem for a free drink on the boat I got a white wine. Regularly priced at $3.50.

Music and Entertainment:

There is music on the boat, but I would chalk it up to more fun ambient music rather than “party” music. Nobody on the boat is dancing but more relaxing. But with that being said, if you had a good group of friends, you probably could make it work.

Friendly and Professional Crew:

The crew aboard the Bona Vida Catamaran was attentive and friendly for the most part. Since it’s not really a party boat, they pretty much just serve you the snacks and you have to go to the bar to order the drink which is fine.

Is it Okay to Do This Sunset Catamaran Ride Solo?

Yes! I did this completely solo and did not feel weird at all. I also met other solo travelers while I was on the boat too so this is something that you can totally do by yourself. I know traveling alone can be difficult, especially in a place like Cartagena since it seems that every corner has a bachelor party or a couple on a romantic vacation. But I assure you that this is a great option for you to see a different side of Cartagena without to much effort.

Where Does the Sunset Catamaran Cruise Depart From?

If you are staying inside the Walled City or Getsemani, it’s an easy walk to the port (Muelle de la Bodeguita) where you’ll be departing from. I was staying in Getsemani and it took me about 15 minutes to walk to the dock. Once you’ve purchase your ticket though, make sure just to doubel check what port/dock you’ll be leaving from.

How to Book Your Cartagena Sunset Catamaran Cruise

Booking your Cartagena sunset catamaran cruise is easy and convenient. I booked mine right of of Viator’s website. The sunset catamaran cruise runs everyday (weather dependent) and is usually from 5:00 pm-7:00pm. Bona Vida also has an all day catamaran cruise if that interests you as well.
