Award Dates

The award dates land between September-October 2025. Some cities have more dates than others but surprisingly, there are a lot of available dates right now. If you want to search for your own specific airport, Virgin Atlantic has a pretty convenient reward flight finder where you can search in calendar view.

You can either fly into London Heathrow (LHR) or Manchester (MAN).

Be mindful of your dates because Virgin has a hefty cancellation/change policy of $100 for flights originating in the U.S.

 

Amex Transfer Bonus to Virgin Atlantic (40% Bonus)

As mentioned above, if you have Amex Membership Reward points, you can transfer them to Virgin Atlantic right now and receive a 40% bonus. The caveat to this is that you have to transfer in 1,000 point increments. Unfortunately, none of the points redemptions equals out perfectly with the transfer. So, what I’m trying to say is that you’ll almost always end up transferring a little bit more Amex points than you need because of the 1,000 point increment.

For example, for a 6,000 point award redemption, you would technically only need to transfer 4,286 points (+40% bonus). But since you have to transfer in 1,000-point increments, you will have to transfer over 5,000 points. It’s still cheaper than 6,000, but yeah, feels like kind of a waste. Hopefully, you’ll want to buy round trip ticket though because then it would only cost you 8,572 points and then you would only need to transfer 9,000 points!

Also, just keep in mind that the transfer bonus ends 12/31/24.

Bottom Line

This is a super good deal for Virgin Atlantic flights especially with the 40% Amex transfer bonus happening right now. I mean how can you beat a 9,000-point round trip ticket to London from New York? There are a few business class redemption but they are very sparse and not as good of a deal. The best deal for sure is securing one of those economy flights. But since the dates are so far ahead along with the $100 change/cancellation fee, you’ll have to definitely make sure you’re committed to those dates.
