A few months back, I decided to stay at the Wynn Las Vegas for my birthday and I (of course) booked it through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) portal. It’s my favorite way to book hotel rooms to ensure that I get a nice view, late check-out, and some sort of food credit. Yes, the $695 annual fee is not something to joke about, but honestly, it is one of the few credit cards where I think I actually make all that money back. Even just from staying at FHR locations alone!

 

What is Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts?

Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts is a special hotel program that only Amex Platinum and Centurion (Invite-Only) cardholders can access. It’s essentially a collection of luxury hotels that Amex has negotiated to provide special benefits to their cardholders like guaranteed late check-out and special amenity credit. So, unless you have one of these two cards, I guess this blog post wouldn’t do you any good. But it might convince you to sign up for the Amex Platinum one day!

 

Wynn Las Vegas Amex Deal

Wynn Las Vegas’ Amex deal has your usual perks: early check-in, late check-out, amenity credit, room upgrade, free wifi, breakfast credit, etc. But one thing to note is that the amenity credit is going to be for the spa! At most FHR locations, it’s usually an F&B credit, but for the Wynn Las Vegas, you get a $100 spa credit instead.

 

What Did I End Up Receiving?

1. Daily Breakfast for Two: You get a $60 credit ($30/person) for breakfast that can be used at any of their restaurants that are open. If you’re not in the mood to go downstairs, you can always use it on room service which is what I did. Getting free room service credit is the best luxury there is!
2. Room Upgrade: I wasn’t expecting a big room upgrade, but I was really hoping for a view of the strip at least. Instead, all I got was a panoramic view that faced the golf course. When I checked in, they said they were sold out of all the strip view rooms. This was kind of surprising since it was a Monday in late February, not a Saturday night during the summer. In the end, it was still a nice room with a solid view.
3. Noon Check-In: My flight was unfortunately delayed so I didn’t get to utilize the noon check-in.
4. 4:00 p.m. Check-Out: I didn’t really get to use this either since I was moving hotels to the Crockfords Las Vegas inside Resorts World. I did however stay until 2:00 p.m.
5. Complimentary Wifi: They took $5 off the resort fee.
6. Unique Amenity ($100 Spa Credit): As mentioned above, the $100 amenity credit is for the Wynn spa. I’m not going to talk too much about it here since I dedicated a whole post on it, but I’ll tell you it was well used! Although I love the spa, I think at the end of the day, I much prefer getting a $100 Food & Beverage credit because at least you can share that with someone. I feel like the spa credit is more beneficial for one person, but since I was flying solo on this trip, it worked out for me.

 

Review of the Room

At first glance, the room seemed kind of bare. I don’t know if it’s because the rooms are larger than usual but it just didn’t feel as luxurious as the Encore. Also, the color palette felt like it was all the same yellow tone. The only thing the room had for a pop of color was the art, which I thought (dare I say) was a little basic.

I love the light coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows and the bathroom was clean and spacious. I also appreciated that I can turn on the TV, go to my account, and see everything that I’ve spent. Other than that, I don’t really know if I have anything else to say about the rooms.

 

Is It Worth Booking Through Amex?

In my opinion, yes, it’s definitely worth booking through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. As a matter of fact, if you haven’t noticed by now, it’s always better to book through Amex FHR because of all of the benefits you get. Just to compare, look down below. For about $34 extra, you get a $100 spa credit, $60 breakfast credit, room upgrade, and early check-in and late checkout!

Conclusion

Anyone that knows me knows that I love staying at the Wynn and the Encore (they’re the same hotel group for those who don’t know). Both hotels are the classiest hotels on the strip and you just get a more upscale type of service there. Granted, I do prefer the Encore way more than the Wynn. The rooms at the Wynn just seem a little out-of-date now, but still 10x better than most of the hotels on the strip. If you are debating between the Wynn or Encore, I would say that the Wynn is slightly cheaper if you are trying to save money. But if you’re already spending this much, might as well stay at the Encore.
